Train Encounters | Hang Em' High

casanova

A recurring original character; I tend to draw him a lot in my usual art style but with this piece I wanted to delve into something I wasn't as used to and paint him in a more realistic style. This was a study to further my ability to translate characters from a fantasy format not based in realism, to something more true to life in an attempt to better know and reproduce the character's traits in any form.

Ryze Falls

This piece is another Dungeons and Dragons illustration done in Procreate for personal freelance purposes featuring another one of my recurring designed characters. I wanted to deepen this character and his backstory by displaying the most pivotal moment in his life and how he'd appear in reacting and experiencing it. Expression was important to me in order to explain the gravity of being helpless to the true unknown, and I seeked to find a balance between the blackness of the void and light from above– hope versus devastation.

fox and ryze

The intention for this digital painting was to create a similar aesthetic to a movie screencapture. Another version of this piece has subtitles along the bottom of the "screen," with dialogue, but the screencapture alone I believe draws more attention to the artwork in this circumstance. The most important thing to me in making this was getting across the mood I wanted to portray as well as giving the feeling of having a narrative.

nymphaea

This is another example of a study into a recurring self-designed character by way of translating typically stylized character traits into a realistic form to better understand the character's features for future reference. This painting was more experimental for me in terms of playing with style and effects, but rigidity was kept solid at the same time in order to keep a more proportionally realistic approach.

alderron's finest

A Dungeons and Dragons party designed to the specifications of the group that requested the piece along with my own original attributes. I took into account the characters' personalities and bonds and put that to use within poses, expressions, and interactions. Designing each character's appearance– outfits, facial traits, body proportions, and so on– included a lot of detail work and thought, but ended up being very enjoyable.

Cleaned-up lineart colored with a clipping mask over original monochrome lineart. Adjustments were made in this portion of the drawing for proportions to be the way I wanted them to and details added for things like clothing designs.
